The traffic signal at the intersection of Valley Road and Mountain Avenue will be replaced and upgraded in the upcoming weeks. The purpose of this project, which is a joint effort between Morris County and Long Hill Township, is to provide a dedicated left turn lane and arrow for motorists travelling east on Valley Road and making a left to go north onto Mountain Avenue. This should alleviate the traffic backup on Valley Road and minimize the use of Lackawanna Boulevard as a cut-through to the Gillette Train station. The project is anticipated to take approximately one month depending on weather. Associated sidewalk ramp work will also be performed and a small portion of the road will be milled and paved toward the end of the project. Minimal traffic disruption is expected with the possibility of one or two days of detours being required. Should these detours become necessary, additional notification will be posted, police will be present, and signage will be in place.
