Update 2020 Fall Season:  Due to the pandemic, several teams have decided not to participate in the league and play games against other towns.  We will instead offer clinics this fall starting in Sept. on Monday & Thursday evenings for Watchung Hills area students in grades 3-8.  The clinics will focus on skills and drills and scrimmages.  We are putting together the final details and will announce the programs soon.  Please check back here for updates.
Registration for clinics is open on Community Pass until 9/13/20.  Clinics will start on Monday, 9/14.

JUNIOR Fall Field Hockey Program

The Junior Fall Field Hockey Program is an instructional field hockey league with a low level of competition and a strong focus on skill development with across the board participation.  All ability levels are welcome.  We also hire an outside organization to come in and teach skills and drills and incorporate this training into our regular practice nights.

Normally, our Fall Field Hockey Program for Watchung Hills area students, grades 3-8, runs from late August until mid November.  We are members of the Mid NJ Youth Field Hockey league and in the “Southwest Division”.  However, for the fall 2020, we have restructured our program due to the pandemic and have decided to keep our program “local”.  We will be running sessions for Grades 3 & 4 on Monday & Thursday evenings during the month of September.  For grades 5-8, we will run sessions on Monday & Thursday evenings from September until the end of October.  Sessions will be held under the lights at Kantor Memorial Park Turf Field.  We will not be playing games in neighboring towns on Sundays during the season.  We hope to resume that program in the fall of 2021.

All participants will follow additional protocols during the pandemic which may be adjusted as necessary during the season for the Grades 3-8 programs.

If your child is sick, please have them stay home.

Participants will have to wear a cloth face covering at drop off and pick up and if using the bathroom facilities.  During training, the cloth face coverings may be removed.

All participants will have their temperatures taken at the beginning of each session with an infrared touchless thermometer.  Anyone with a fever of 100.4F or higher will not be able to participate in the session.

Goalie equipment will not be able to shared.  Therefore, when scrimmaging, we will not be using goalies.

Participants will be asked to arrive 15 minutes early for check in.

In Fall 2020, players will use their practice pinnies (pink & white reversible pinnies that we have used in the past).  Players will not wear their uniforms to sessions—just bring pinnies.  Pinnies are available for purchase for those that don’t have their pinnie from a previous year.

Mouth guards, Cleats, Shin Guards, Field Hockey Goggles are MANDATORY!

A limited number of loaner sticks are available; first come, first served basis.

Program Director:  Kathy Gulbish

Practice Pinnie:  $15

As additional Fall information becomes available, it will be posted here.

Please NOTE:  Boys who wish to play Field Hockey are permitted to by the league.  Please contact the Recreation Dept. with any questions.

In regards to stick size:  with the toe of the stick on the ground, make sure it is straight.  Hold the stick with 2 fingers at the top of the handle keeping it in place.  The top of the stick should reach the hip bone, it can be slightly higher or lower.
