Taking Short Term Measures for our Long Term Good...
Our Department's measures during this pandemic:
Effective 3/18, all Township Playgrounds, Athletic Fields and Courts were closed and will remain so until further notice.  At this time, as long as we all follow social distancing recommendations, the parks will remain open for passive recreation activities like walking and jogging.  This is not just a decision that was made by Long Hill Township.  We followed directives from our County and State.
UPDATE: Effective 5/5
Long Hill Municipal Tennis Courts will reopen for our residents utilizing existing rules plus click HERE for additional guidelines.
Playgrounds, athletic fields, and basketball courts remain closed.
Our Rutgers SAFETY Class for volunteer coaches had to be postponed.  We will be offering this class as an online class very soon.  Keep checking back, and we will post the date here.
We have not opened registration for our Summer Camps as of yet.  Because of the pandemic, we will not be able to run a traditional Summer Rec Camp as we have in the past in the schools this summer.  We are currently awaiting more news and guidelines to be released by the state so that we may try to offer an alternative camp option outside at Kantor Park.   From 5/19 - 5/26, we circulated a survey to camp parents.  In a nutshell, 89 people responded, and the results were positive that most parents would still be interested in pursuing an alternative outdoor summer camp that is modified to meet new camp guidelines, given the current situation with the pandemic--78% would be interested.  Campers in Grades K-5 seemed to show the most interest, with some pre-K interest, and very little interest from grades 6-8.  We are anticipating a possible offering after July 4th.  Please keep checking back here for updates, and watch our email blasts.
At the Township Committee meeting on 5/12, it was decided we will not be able to open Stirling Lake as usual on Memorial Day weekend because of the pandemic.  We are targeting a July 4th opening.  We are still accepting applications for lifeguards and counselors.  Go to tab "Employment in Parks & Recreation" for online application and more information about positions.

On a personal note, please stay well as we all adjust to our "new normal".  You can still reach us in Recreation during our regular Town Hall hours, but we are working remotely.  Rebel certainly does miss all of her visits from all of our kids.  She can't wait to see everyone again.
Make sure to keep checking our photos posted below.  Please keep letting us know how you are doing either by email, phone or on Instagram at longhillparksrec.
PLEASE NOTE:  The 2020 meeting schedule for Recreation Advisory Committee Meetings has changed.  We will be meeting on the third Tuesday of each month.  The printed Township Calendar is incorrect. (Note:  our meetings will be held remotely until further notice)
2020 Meeting Dates:  1/21, 2/18, 3/17, 4/21, 5/19, 6/16, 7/21, 8/18, 9/15, 10/20, 11/17, 12/15  All meetings are held at Town Hall in the lobby area near the Recreation Dept. at 7:30pm.  All meetings are open to the public.  We're always looking for new members!
Do your New Year's Resolutions include exercising more?  Why not start a walking regimen at Kantor Park?  With the completion of the walkway around the grass field; if you do a "figure 8" around the park, you will have walked 1/2 mile.  Why don't you start a challenge for yourself?  Start off with a 1/2 mile, and then try to add laps as we travel through the winter!  Anyone with a success story--please be sure to share it with us!

"I'm on a Wait List for a program.  What does that mean?"
Some of our programs have a maximum # of participants that can be registered for any number of reasons such as physical space limitations, established ratios between our instructors and participants, equipment/material available, etc.
If you have added your name to a wait list (always at no charge), you will be contacted only if space becomes available.  If you are still interested in the program; your registration on the wait list will move over to the intended program, and you will be asked to go in and apply payment to secure your spot in the program. If you are no longer interested, we will just remove your name from the wait list and continue on down the list.
Want to get email reminders about upcoming events in Recreation?  Make sure to sign up for Recreation "e-News" on the front page of the township website--blue envelope icon on right.
