New Jersey Flag Status Notification - Monday, November 4, 2019 - All Flags Half-Staff

Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 90, ordering the flag of the United States of America and the flag of New Jersey shall be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities during appropriate hours on Monday, November 4, 2019, in recognition and mourning of a dedicated and tireless public servant, Representative William J. Hughes.

As a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding public service of Representative Elijah E. Cummings, of Maryland, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions through October 18, 2019.  I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventeenth day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand nineteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-fourth.

New Jersey Flag Status Notification - Wednesday, September 11, 2019 - All Flags Half-Staff

Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 82, ordering the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of New Jersey shall be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, instrumentalities, and all public buildings during appropriate hours on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, in recognition and in mourning of the victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001, including those from our home State.


New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7, 2019, to honor the life of Art England’s wake and funeral.  Art England was a veteran, hero and former TC member. 


New Jersey Flag Status Notification - Friday, August 9, 2019, All Flags Half-Staff

Acting Governor Oliver signed Executive Order No. 77, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, August 9, 2019, to honor the life of famed New Jersey author Toni Morrison.

"Toni Morrison was a winner of the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, National Humanities Medal, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom," said Acting Governor Sheila Oliver. "Here, in New Jersey, we will remember her not only by her remarkable achievements, but also by the countless lives that she touched with her beautiful storytelling and brilliant writing. While Toni may not be with us anymore, her work will reach generations to come."

The flag of the United States of America and the flag of New Jersey shall be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities during appropriate hours on Friday, August 9, 2019, in recognition and mourning of a visionary author and distinguished professor, Toni Morrison.

Tuesday, August 6, 2019, through Thursday, August 8, 2019 — All Flags Half-Staff

Acting Governor Oliver signed Executive Order No. 76, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff to honor the lives of the 31 victims of the attacks in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.

“The senseless acts of domestic terrorism in El Paso and Dayton have left us shaken yet undeterred in our resolve to end the tragedy of gun violence that plagues communities all across our nation,” said Acting Governor Sheila Oliver. “New Jersey joins the rest of our nation in mourning the 31 innocent lives cut short and, in their honor, we will lower our flags to half-mast.”

The flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of New Jersey shall be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities during appropriate hours from Tuesday, August 6, 2019, through Thursday, August 8, 2019, in recognition and mourning of the passing of the victims in El Paso and Dayton.
